In 2009 a group of local, independently owned businesses came together to found the Sustainable Interconnected Business Alliance, a Florida non-profit.  Our founding members articulated and agreed to a shared vision, mission and set of values.  Our founders dedicated themselves to the proposition that the health and happiness of our communities depend on strengthening two vital foundations – local independent enterprise and the pursuit of sustainability.

Through their efforts and values, our growing association and our members are transforming the way business is done in the greater Tampa Bay area.  Through our shared values and practices, we seek to create a local living economy that is sustainable and strengthens our community as the number one priority.

We regard ourselves as part of a wider national movement, and we support other like-minded independent business organizations such as the Tampa Independent Business Alliance.   Nationally we have been accepted as a member network of the Business Alliance of Local Living Economies (BALLE), a leading organization in North America promoting the growth of more sustainable, equitable and environmentally sound local economies. We also support the work of another leading national promoter of local economies, the American Independent Business Alliance .

SIBA and our member businesses provide leadership in laying the foundations for a new economy in areas such as Independent Retail, Healthy Food, Local Agriculture, Green Construction, Renewable Energy, Alternative Transportation and Zero‐waste Manufacturing.
